Am 1. Weihnachtsfeiertag war in NY, einer der groessten Staedte der Welt, alles geschlossen: Geschaefte, Restaurants, Theater, Museen - Touristenmassen auf den Strassen waren dazu gezwungen lange Spaziergaenge zu machen und somit erkundeten wir die "Highline", eine zum Park umgebaute U-Bahn-Plattform, die von der 14. bis zur 30. Strasse reicht.

Christmas Day in New York, one of the biggest cities in the world, was kind of strange, as everything was closed: Shops, Restaurants, Theaters, Museums - masses of tourists were forced to spend this day walking through NY and some of them, like us, went to see the "Highline". This used to be an old Subway track, one level above the street, running from 14th to 30th street, which was turned into a park.

An einem anderen Tag machten wir uns auf den Weg nach Astoria, dem Teil New Yorks, wo Enrique als Baby gewohnt hat.

On another day, we took the Subway to Astoria where Enrique used to live when he was a baby.

... anschliessend machten sie auf dem Spielplatz Halt, wo wie damals Enrique auch heute noch Spass haben konnte.

Doch der Hoehepunkt unseres New York Aufenthaltes war der Besuch des Musicals "Koenig der Loewen".

But the highlight of our trip was by far the visit of the musical "Lion King".

Enrique sang und tanzte die gesamten 2.5 Stunden mit und noch Wochen danach traellerte er die Lieder von diesem Ereignis.

Enrique spent 2.5 hours singing and dancing and would still hum the song for weeks to come.

Uebrraschungstag - Surprise Playdate

Die fuer die Kinder lang ersehnten und fuer die Erwachsenen endlos erscheinenden Schulferien wurden mit einem Ueberraschungsplaydate eingelaeutet. 10 Erwachsene, 15 Kinder und vier Babies, unsere komplette Gruppe, trafen nach und nach im Haus von Enrique ein. Niemand hatte eine Ahnung, was an diesem Tag alles passieren sollte und deshalb suchten sich die Kinder zunaechst Dinge zur Selbstbeschaeftigung.

The vacation that the kids had been waiting for and the parents hoped to pass by quickly began with a surprise playdate. 10 adults, 15 kids and 4 babies, our complete group, was getting together at Enrique's apartment. Arrriving one after the other, nobody had a clue about the things that were supposed to happen that day and therefore, the kids looked for something to entertain themselves at the beginning.

Kurz darauf begannen die ersten mit der alljaehrlichen Plaetzschendekoration. Dieses Mal war Mutti klueger als in den vergangenen Jahren, denn sie buk alle Kekse schon am Vorabend, um die Teigfinger an Waenden und Schraenken in der gesamten Wohnung zu vermeiden.

Shortly after, the first group of kids started to decorate their Christmas cookies like every year in the past. But this time, Mom was smarter than in previous years; she baked the cookies the night before in order to avoid the dough sticking to all the walls and cabinets throughout the apartment.

Natuerlich wanderten dabei mindestens genauso viele Suessigkeiten im Bauch wie auf den Plaetzschen, obwohl ...

Of course, the same amount of sweets that ended up on the cookies, landed in everybody's belly, even though ...

... Enrique's Mama doch mit vielen wesentlich gesuenderen Dingen fuer das leibliche Wohl der Gaeste gesorgt hatte.

... Enrique's Mom had set up plenty of snacks that were by far much healthier.


Dann wurde wieder gespielt und zum Erstaunen aller gab es bei 12 Kindern zwischen 4 und 8 Jahren keinerlei Probleme.

Then, it was time to play with the toys and to our surprise, 12 kids between the age of 4 and 8 did not fight over them.

Womit wohl keiner gerechnet hatte, bis Enrique's Mama einen grossen Stuhl vor dem Weihnachtsbaum plazierte, war die Tatsache, dass ein Weihnachtsmann den Kindern Geschenke bringen wuerde. Dies liess doch bei vielen Erwachsenen die Kinnlade herunterklappen!

What nobody could have guessed, was the fact that Enrique's Mom could come up with the idea of bringing Santa Claus, but when she placed the big chair in front of the tree, some parents suspected what was about to happen and this was jaw dropping to many of them.

Dann war es Zeit fuer eine Erfrischung, doch mehr als 10min hielt es keiner in dem durch den Wind abgekuehlten Eiswasser aus.

When Santa Claus left, the kids were requesting a dip in the water, but nobody lasted more than 10min because the water was freezing cold.

Gluecklicherweise traf der Pizzabote rechtzeitig ein und wir veranstalteten ein Picknick am Pool.

Fortunately, the pizza boy arrived on time and therefore, we were able to have a little picknick at the pool.

Frisch gestaerkt , waren die Kinder fuer die naechste Aktivitaet bereit. Dafuer mussten zunaechst quadratige Pretzeln ordentlich auf einem Backblech plaziert werden.

Filled up with energy, the kids were ready for the next activity. For this, they had to place square shaped Pretzels on a baking tray first.

Anschliessend wurden Hershey Kuesse ausgewickelt und auf die Pretzelgitter gelegt.

Afterwards, they opened Hershey Kisses and put them on top.




Nach 3min im Ofen konnten nun M & M's aller Farben in die geschmolzene Schokolade gedrueckt werden. Diese Kombination aus salzig und suess war einfach koestlich.

After 3 min in the oven, colourful M & M's were squeezed into the melted chocolate. The combination of salty and sweet was delicious.

Im Laufe des Tages mussten die Kinder ausserdem fuer Handabdruecke antreten, da eine unserer befreundeten Familien kurz vorm Umzug nach Chicago stand und aus diesem Grund ein Abschiedsgeschenk angefertigt wurde.

Throughout the day, the kids also had to line up for handprints, as one of our families was about to move to Chicago and we were preparing a farewell present.

Das Endergebnis konnte sich sehen lassen!

The final result was incredible.




Den kroenenden Abschluss des Tages bildete, der extra von Mutti bestellte, Regenbogen und die leuchtenden Kinderaugen.

The day finished with a rainbow ordered by Enrique's Mom which left the kids with sparkling eyes.

Music Class Presentation

Im Herbst 2011 begann Enrique Musikunterricht zu nehmen. Spielerisch werden ihm dort verschiedene Instrumente vorgestellt mit dem Ziel ihn irgendwann fuer eines zu begeistern oder eventuell herauszufinden, dass das Musizieren ihm nicht liegt. Doch auch andere Dinge, wie Gesang oder Rhythmus werden dort geuebt ...

In Autumn of 2011, Enrique started taking Music Classes. In a very playful way, he had been introduced to many different instruments in order for him to eventually choose one that he would like to learn in the future or to simply find out if he is a musical child. Besides this, they also train their voices and rhythm ...

... und bei einem kleinen Weihnachtskonzert konnte er dann zeigen, was er gelernt hatte.

... and during a small Christmas concert, they were able to show what they had learned.

Alles war hervorragend gelaufen und dennoch war ein wenig Enttaeuschung in seiner Stimme zu hoeren, denn er fand es ueberhaupt nicht schoen, dass ihm nicht die Gelegenheit gegeben wurde ein Solo zu singen! Wer haette je gedacht, dass sich aus dem 2 3/4 jaehrigen Jungen, der weinend am Rockzipfel seiner Mama hing, als er mit der Kindergartengruppe ein Weihnachtsprogramm auffuehren sollte, ein Junge entwickelt, der es liebt sich auf der Buehne vor vielen hundert Menschen praesentieren zu koennen!

Everything went extremly well but Enrique was slightly disappointed because he was not able to perform one song by himself! Who would have thought that this little 2 year and 9 month old boy who was crying while holding on to Mom's lap as he was supposed to present a Christmas program with his Pre-School class would develop into a kid that loves the stage and to perform in front of hundreds of people!

Wissenschaftstag - Science Fair Day

Heute war Wissenschaftstag in Greenlife - Enrique's Schule - zu dem auch die Eltern eingeladen waren, um saemtlichen Altersgruppen beim Vorfuehren von Experimenten zuschauen zu koennen.

Today was Sciene Day at Greenlife (Enrique's school). Parents were invited too, in order to watch the kids while presenting their experiements.

... das Natrium-Bikarbonat allmaehlich in die Fluessigkeit gleiten konnte. Die sich daraus entwickelten Gase fuellten den Luftballon bis ...

... er auf der Flasche zum stehen kam. Sichtlich stolz auf sich selber, war anschliessend ein breites Laecheln auf Enrique's Gesicht zu sehen.

Nach der ganzen Anspannung und Aufregung konnten sich die Kinder anschliessend auf dem Sielplatz austoben.

After the whole stress and excitement, the kids were able to let off the steam on the playground.

Drama Presentation

Enrique's Schule "Greenlife" hatte wieder ein Mal zur Theatervorfuehrung eingeladen.One more time, Enrique's school "Greenlife" sent out an invite to the kids theatre performance at Condovac.

Dieses Mal lautete das Thema: Jack und der Chilistrunk. Die Buehnendekoration (Schloss, Chilistrunk, Hexenhaus und Armenhaus) kreierte unser Freund Facundo und bei der farblichen Gestaltung war auch Enrique's Mutti mit am Werk!
This time, the theme was: Jack and the Chili stock. The stage decoration (a castle, the chili stock, a witch house and a poor man's house) was created by our friend Facundo and Enrique's Mom helped him by adding a few colour strokes here and there.


Jede Klasse hatte eine spezielle Presentation eingeuebt. Enrique's Altersgruppe sang das Lied vom goldenen Ei:

Weihnachtsvorbereitungen - Xmas Preparations
